La Dirindina, 1715

"The ear of jealousy hears all things" and unwittingly, Carissimo provides the opportunity for the pair to have one last joke at his expense; he is prompted to the ridiculous conclusion that Liscione has fathered a child. With social propriety in mind as always, he tries to force them into marriage. When they've stopped laughing, they try to object, but he's beyond seeing reason...

Carissimo:
Now join you hands in wedlock and give your child a name.
Dirindina: Let us break this deadlock,
Liscione: there's nothing here to shame
